Tsundoku is a Japanese word for the habit of acquiring books and letting them pile up unread. We think that is a beautiful problem to have.
This is a small, quiet place for people who love books. You catalogue what you own, share shelves with friends, and maybe -- when the right moment comes -- lend a book to someone who needs it more than your shelf does.
Reading is good for you. It makes you slower in the best way. It gives you words for things you already felt but could not say. We want more people to read, and we think the best way to make that happen is through friends -- not algorithms, not recommendations from strangers, not bestseller lists.
If your friend has a book you are curious about, you should be able to borrow it. If you have a shelf full of novels gathering dust, maybe someone in your circle would give them a better life. That is all this is.
We keep things simple and honest:
We built this because we buy too many books ourselves and thought others might relate.
Tsundoku grows slowly, by invitation. Every new member gets five invite codes to share with people they trust. Good things stay small for a while.
If you have a code, you are already welcome.
